I might be going to run out of superlatives if I shoot my bolt now about the conditions in Serre Chevalier at the moment, so I’m just going to say it was very, very nice up there today.
In fact it was so nice I had to let out the occasional whoop and a giggle. The snow is like velvet, there are about six other people skiing and even the little patch above the Frejus lift, my very own personal bugbear, was pleasant.
Started the day in Monetier by bumping into Sylvan from Elixier Sports on his board and he was off to slide down the fresh powder to the right of Cibuit. I was more interested in getting a feel of the station as a whole so pushed off down the valley towards Briancon.
I like the sunshine, heliotrophic you might say, so did a couple of runs in Monetier and then dropped over to Cucamelle and kept going to Grand Serre.
Every piste was fantastic, there was not one queue at any of the lifts – another reason to ski that way is the higher speed six-man, lifts such as Clot Gaultier and Le Foret, which are in the sun most of the day, even at this time of year.
Bounced down Echaillon, just for the fun of it, then headed back to Monetier, which has certainly benefited from the two days of fresh snow we’ve just had, all the beads are buried and the bumps ironed out.
Honestly this is one of the best times to ski here, no holidays, no ice and no one.
Just don’t tell anyone.

It sounds lovely, if I could find a way to make this internet thing work itself, I’d be able to get out more myself (if I didn’t have a six month old baby).
I defo am going to get one of those blacktooth iberry 3gs googlephones and then we can do all this good stuff live from da pistes – how cool would that be?
