Powder hounds climb up to drop down parallel to Cucamelle from the eponymous lift

Powder hounds climb up to drop down parallel to Cucamelle from the eponymous lift

Might have to eek out an excellent for today, after the weekend’s powder – it was excellent. Cold and crisp, but like skiing on the top of a condensed Guiness head, and to top it all virtually alone.

I started in Monetier at about 10.30am, still mostly in shadow apart from L’Yret which was my first run, dropped over Cucamelle and kept going all the way to Aigliette and Prorel, the former was abit nippy in the shadow but everything else was in lovely sunshine and all the snow was fraiche.

The British army are here, God knows why it’s not as if there’s any snow in Iraq, however there is some great skiing to be had in Iran, so that’s ominous.
I am coming to the conclusion powder isn’t for me and my mighty bulk, for a man sized like a water mammel it’s odd it doesn’t translate when trying to float over 30cm of the stuff, let alone turn on it.

Saw Darren Turner from Insightski, he’s got a nice new burnt ochre jacket, a great improvement on that “pea” of last year.

On the way back down I honestly had Monetier to myself, but I’d strongly suggest you come and spoil it for me as it’s fantastic right now.

Don’t worry…I’m out there from Sunday in Chantmerle for a week. Visited SC in 2006 for a day and fully intend to give it a right good go this time! Greatly enjoying the articles too!

Bon ski!

Thanks Nick – there’s a new pub in Chantemerle you might like, it’s called ‘The Station’ – I’ll be playing there (bass) on Thursday and Friday apres ski. It’s right next to the bubble lift at the bottom of the Luc Alphand piste.
