I can only pressume the silence from yesterday’s window quiz meant either ignorance or apathy, somewhat disappointing readers either way, maybe a pint wasn’t incentive enough, but there you go.
The answer to the question of what is the difference between French and English windows is – French open inwards and English (to the French mind) open outwards. This all has to do with where the two nations place their shutters, the French have them on the outside and the English inside.
But wait, there is more intelligence to be had, this is because the “French are afraid of robbers and wolves”, according to the architect who explained the difference in fenestration.
The reason I know this is because I was talking to a local who is turning a previously run-down village house right in the middle of Monetier les Bains into three luxury apartments and said she wouldn’t mind selling the top one, on the third floor, which is where I was when I spoke to the architect.
Now here’s a deal (if you have half a bar) she is putting it on the market for Eur620k when it is finished in August but would take Eur570k as is, which includes water, sewage, heating, but just not the finishings. It covers some 90sqare metres on the main floor and another 30sqm on a mezzanine and is three double bed, three bath with a big open kitchen and sitting room that looks directly onto the pistes.
This is direct from the owner so no estate agent’s 10% fee (I always feel that’s wrong, but apparantly that is what it is in France). So if you feel like dropping a line she’s on serrechevalier (at) email.com. It’s written like that so the spider-bots don’t get it.
The pictures with this post are one out and one onto the apartment as seen from the main road through Monetier.
Anyway it’s another spectacular day in Serre Chevalier, great sun, crisp wind and the snow is still holding after the most recent dump a couple of days ago.
