Vallée de la Clarée

I thought I’d leave the valley this afternoon and go to different one. This is the Vallée de la Clarée, which is not far at all from Serre Chevalier itself. The difference with this one is that at the north end it stops, you can walk further, but the road stops.

However it wasn’t always the plan to be like that. Years ago Emily Carles had a huge campaign to keep the Vallée de la Clarée unspoilt. It certainly is, there is still traffic, but no one is in a particular hurry as it doesn’t particularly go anywhere. Actually that isn’t quite true as during the summer you can turn off right just before Nevache and go over the Col de l’Echelle into Italy.
The only skiing in this valley is ski de fond, so the majority of our winter readers will be staying in Serre Chevalier and not venturing over this way, but if you do, you’ll love it.
