I had a fine trip down to Dover with the M25 and the M20 behaving themselves impeccably.
It’s quite rare that I bring a car back with no passengers, so I did some shopping on the way. A TV from Richer Sounds in Watford, loads of pappadams and curry sauces as well as brown sauce, bulmers cider and enough tea to keep me going for a year.
I’d always been caught short in Dover as I could never find a big ’1stop shop’ supermarket, but now there is a big Morrisons in the town next to the rather grim Netto. With 2 hours free parking it’s an ideal place to stock up on stuff you can’t get in Serre Chevalier.
Norfolkline are my preferred ferry company, but I was a tad miffed that they charged me £60 for this trip. Normally you can get fares for about £25 or even less.
However I have just discovered that the bar on the ferry does stock a few bottles of Marstons Pedigree at £3 each. Arguably the best beer in The World – it is crying shame that I have to drive again tonight. I suppose just one won’t hurt.
My next blog will be from France.
