Yet another glorious day up there.
There was a huge blue sky this morning, then an even grey/ blue split and now back to bluebell.
The meteo blokes have reined themselves in a bit, we’re predicted a couple of “snow showers” tonight and Monday, even a splash of fog. They are getting the temperature right, it always drops below freezing at night and the quality of the snow all the way to the bottom is fantastic.
The slopes seem empty, but there is some disturbing optical illusion the Italians pull off, as soon as you get to an intersection or ski lift, it just seems packed with the blighters.
The just mill about, going pronto without seemingly any idea of what the word has come to mean. Just two of them can block a six man lift for an hour – amazing.
This got me wondering how many legions the Roman Empire actually had, it could have been fifty blokes and a van, just incredibly well dispersed. Same thing might be true of Rome’s alleged traffic problems, just a few fantstic eratic drivers and a swarm of Vespas.
They’re all very affable about being underfoot, it’s just a truly amazing, if not surreal, thing to experience. It would be nice to see David Attenbrough detail them on a wildlife show I’d actually watch. Maybe it’s more Desmond Morris’ thing?
Monday tomorrow, which means a real reduction in numbers, see you then – ciao.
