That old chestnut

by Fergus Rainbow on November 20, 2010

Me again. You know I like to bang on about back-scatter/ porno/ pedo scanning devices at airports. Well here I go again:

They’re bad.

I won’t bore you with the details, so that’s it in a nutshell. If you want to have a look at some naked images that US Marshalls kept check this out. These images are far more blurry than the real deal, so maybe a touch of disinformation in here.

Remember we were promised these machines wouldn’t keep, share or store these images – so they said.

I’m also very interested to see how much cash the company that makes the machines makes. It’s part owned by former Department of Homeland Security Chief, Michael Chertoff, who has been advocating this technology on any news program that will have him. He’s personally profiting from their implementation. As a Security Consultant and Chairman of the Chertoff Group, one of his main clients is Rapiscan, a manufacturer of these devices.

Last year, the Department of Homeland Security awarded contracts of US$160 million each to two manufacturers of these back-scattering devices, one which which was Rapiscan.

Anyway, that’s what’s being crossing my mind – and the fact I liked this image.

It’s gone all sunny again in Serre Chevalier, but it is cold. Ooh listen to me moaning on, queen.

I somehow feel there is something not quite right here. Michael Shirtoff really? Any relation to Mr C Mycock?
