What a cracking weekend, sun, fresh snow and not too many people.
Saturday in Serre Chevalier had a slight cool breeze and was a bit choppy in places, but I took it as an opportunity to work on my bosse (mogul) skills. I’m not really a bouncer, so decided if nature gives lemons why not attck with zest.
The bumps were at the very start of the Aya red and Cucumelle was quite bumpy, well not really bumpy, but enough people had gone down to make it less than smooth.
It’s at moments like this that make you realise how much easier the modern piste skier has it than even 10 years ago, fewer piste bashers, if any, and nowhere near the groomed finish we’re used to.
I expect it makes us all worse skiers, my plan is to now search out the old chop chop.
Sunday was even nicer, the bumps groomed out – who needs bumps? – and no wind, but again strong sunshine, till about 4pm.
Schools are back containing the little ones tomorrow, so expect to have Monetier to myself, one thing I did notice is when it’s quiet one tends to wander dreamily across the piste – must concentrate, still etiquette dictates the uper skier is the one to take evasive action.
