Strange days are these

by Fergus Rainbow on April 17, 2010

Yesterday was the weirdest day in terms of weather I have ever experienced in Serre Chevalier.
It started a bit overcast, then brightened up for five minutes and then changed every few minutes till end of the day when it settled down into sunny.
Every time I got onto a new lift there were new conditions. Went up Bachas in splotchy but bright sun, went down an overcast L’Yret all the way to the bottom, up again for a sunny L’Yret and continued over Cucamelle in a very light dusting of snow.
Then it brightened up again but decided a heavy fall was what it was after and went up the drag to get over to the rest of the valley from Monetier in snow heavy enough to have left a centimetre on me by the time I got to the top of it.
The Sun was out again by the time I got to the bottom of Clot Gauthier – the two runs, red and blue, from this high speed seven man lift are in great condition and are two of my favourites.
The desitination was The Station Bar for the bbq and happy our so had to come down a very slushy Luc Alphand, still it’s all good practice.
The atmosphere was a bit gloomy as it was full of people trapped here by the ash, all plotting ways out of here. I met a teacher whose school was laying on a coach – he wan’t looking forward to that drive, a couple of blokes not too fussed at another day at least on the slopes, and various other refugees pouring over laptops looking at airline sites.
As for the conditions here the Sun is out, but it’s my turn to look after the kids today so think I’m cleaning the loo and hanging out the washing.
