This was originally going to be a well researched article, laid out nicely with facts and figures, but I’m in a bit of a rush, got to get the kids ready for la Ruche (their summer school) and then I’ve got an exciting day trip to Ikea in Grenoble, so I might just do a precis and then a link if you don’t believe me.
My sister in law did the Grenoble/ Lyon airport run yesterday and said there is a band of pollution you drop into as you leave Serre Chevalier and go over the Lauterat pass and the roads were very busy, so excuse if I’m a little terse.
Still thinking positively I bet the smog has all blown away and she’d just encountered Monday traffic.
Anyway it would seem covering you skin when you’re skiing around in the mid-day sun is better than lathering yourself with “the wrong” kind of sunscreen, ie one with Vitamin A derivatives – which in fact accelerate skin damage.
The full report is available by the US-based Environmental Working Group, and although the ingredients are slightly different in Europe it still makes a tip-top read.
The link will name and shame the worst products, give hints and essentially do what I should have done here with less authority.
So screw you guys, I’m going to Grenoble.

Enjoy Grenoble, you will definately find a nice smog cloud there. Many summer holidaymakers in Serre Chevalier are Grenoblians escaping the 40c heat and fumes of a city full of cars. I’m probably just jealous as it is just foggy here in Port Isaac.
