I’m off to Lyon Airport this morning, I’d been looking at different ways to get there and it turned out the train was the best option. If it were in the season I would have got in touch with Jackson at The Alpine Transfer Company to find out about their Lyon Airport Transfers, however it is not.
The journey is about 2.5 hours by car, but about twice that by train. As you can see from my ticket I’ll need to change at Valence, but then the train goes straight to Lyon St Exupery Station which is right at the airport.
The sad thing is that I’m not actually going anywhere – I’m meeting someone there who is then flying back to Bordeaux at 7.30pm. This makes it quite interesting as it means you can get to the Atlantic coast by public transport for about 70€ (the flight was a cheap EasyJet one). The fare from Briancon to Lyon St Exupery is 32€ which I thought was OK value. Amazingly enough I bought the ticket online from the SNCF web site and it worked out fine and they actually posted me the physical ticket.
