Just because the ski season is over doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. We asked Darren Turner at Insight ski to detail how to look after your stuff to get the most out of it for next season.
This is what he said:
EDGES
This whole thing about leaving the wax on to protect the edges is not really nessacary. The best thing to do is to get your skis serviced as you would do normally. this will also help to stop the edges rusting as it will not only sharpen the edges but clean the edges, the other reason being that the next time you ski it will be at the beginning of the season with a good chance of it being on artificial snow so you’ll be pleased to have sharp edges. You can also put a small amount of vaseline on to a cloth and wipe down each edge to stop rusting.
STORING
You can get two velcro ski straps making sure you attach correctly the idea being to not let your skis touch each other and put one at the top where the skis would touch and the same at the tail. The edges will not be in contact with each other, stopping any kind of corosion.
BINDINGS
Use a screw driver to loosen the din setting, this will take pressure off the springs NOTE: Make sure not to jump straight on your skis the following year you will need to retighten! A good idea is to use a post it note to mark what your bindings were origianally set on and leave on the skis. This will also help you to remember to do them back up.
BOOTS
It is a good idea to take the liner out of your boots and leave to dry thoroughly for a couple of days and lift the insole whilst the liners are drying. Make sure the clips on the boots are done up but don’t over do this – as it is purely to keep the plastic in the correct shape. Make sure that the tounge is properly seated in the middle of the boot. Leave your boots in a dry place.
GLOVES/GOGGLES/ETC
Dry thouroughly and always keep your lenses and your goggles in a protective bag if you use a helmet take your goggles off the helmet so you do not stretch the strap. Avalanche trasciever, remember to take the batteries out if the batteries dissolve it would be an expensive mistake.
