Popularity dips in Monetier

by Fergus Rainbow on February 10, 2010

Man, bike, fountain, bliss

This was the stir in the village yesterday, but first I’ll set the scene a bit:

As you drive from Briancon into Le Monetier les Bains, at 1500m the highest village in the chain that makes up the station known as Serre Chevalier there is a little hot spring fed fountain thing, the “les bains” in the full title. Well get this, in this bath sized pool was a clearly relaxing cyclist who looked rather like the rugby player Chabal.

He also looked as if he really needed/ deserved the plunge, so he was left unmolested soaking away his cares.

It was quite nice to see someone actually using the bath for something, usually it’s a hot tap running all the time, designed to show the villages’ thermic qualities. Presumably the size of the basin was chosen to be man sized, so I guess that means he was using the facilities as they were intended.

I’m half tempted to give it a go myself, although the getting out might be the tricky part, certainly given the temperature.

In other news it’s very sunny again today, but there is a biting wind, don’t forget to cover yourself sensibly and if you feel like a free dip please come and get real around the fountain.

That’s brilliant and I loved the photo.
