This current erupton of an Icelandic volcano is again causing delays to flights, well when I say delays I mean cancellations.
It’s nice that the word Eyjafjallajoekull has disappeared from print, it’s a shame it wasn’t called Eccyskull as that would be all doom and gloom, but more importantly – pronouncable.
Honestly it’s got none of the ring of Krakatoa, now that’s a volcano to strike fear into hearts, this thing causes one’s fear to evapourate in a fug of frustration as one’s tounge stumbles over Eyjafjallajoekull, let’s have a go – Eye-jaff-jall-joe-kull. That’s assuming the j is hard, it could well be Eye-yaff-yall-yokel.
I wonder how long I can drag this on for?
Anyway that thing’s all exploding again. In the course of my time in the library it turns out 8 planes have lost engines to volcanic dust in the last 30 years, that’s not bad is it?
Anyway the ash in the atmos is back in the news, it might well affect Serre Chevalier again, but a lot of the flights get stopped to Turin or Grenoble, at least in this inter-season, er season, it’s just for the ski season they ramp up the flights.
Oh to be on a plane an out of the valley now, there is only so much interest an empty ski town can hold - May is the new November, it’s so bad it makes me think of England.
