Latest snow conditions

by Gail Karn on February 19, 2010

The snow has fallen again in the valley. Two substantial dumps this week, around 20-30 cms. Makes it fun on the hill, but a bugger for driving and mainly parking. I cant comment on the snow conditions on the mountain, as ive avoided going up for a week now, due to jeans wearing bladers, and the schools of enfants. It is certainly heavy here in La Salle as its pretty warm. I can imagine its bumpy going into the resorts, and passing the Luc a short while ago, it did look just like that.
Id like to comment on the state of the French parking and driving though. Why are they (sweeping generalisation) completely oblivious to other people? The parking has been down right rubbish, blocking people in, blocking access ponts etc. The same goes for pedestrians in the middle of a snow covered road, when you are trying to drive up or down it. The trick apparently is to get up real close and rev your engine, which results in either no respnse, or suprise with jumpy movements. Gatherings of 2 or more people will split up and go either side of the road causing more grief for the driver, although, of course this makes it harder to take them out in one fell swoop. Drivers that dont take their chains off when on a clear road are also a pain in the rear end, drivng to Briancon can take twice as long, can you really get road rage in the mountains?
