Some bad news from the Serre Chevalier.Org team and yes there is an I in team – we’re somewhat damaged goods at the moment.
I have been relatively injury free for the past few years, but I topped the lot this time, but as a wise man once said “if you’re not falling, you’re not learning.”
And I learnt so much. First listen to your legs, if they’re a bit tired sack the ski and get a soak in. I did a couple of nice runs down from Bachas in Monetier and instead of wandering off into the rest of the system I thought it would be a good idea to try the semi groomed black of Tabuc.
I was on my own and thought what’s the worst thing that can happen? There are a couple of very steep walls half way down, the beginning is narrow but no more than a blue. I did the classic lazy, tired combo and allowed this little path to ski me, and am paying the price now.
I tanked it right onto my shoulder, srcatched my nose up with the goggles I never like wearing less than 100 meters in to the run, what a plum.
I swear I felt my shoulder suck itself back into the socket, but that’s not very likely is it? Anyway there was mobility and, at that point, not too much pain. So then the dilemma of deciding to walk back up and try and ponce a lift down with the ski patrol or man up and ski down – in smashed goggles.
Well it was a no brainer, if I can choose the stupidest option I will, so skied down. The snow was lovely, there are some scraped patches coming through, but not really one mogul to speak of.
Something else I learnt is you don’t get any sympathy from real skiers who have really broken real bones. Toff from the Aroaki ski shop in Pre Chabert said “if you can move it, it’s not broken”. He used to race Alphand and has a similar number of scars to prove it.
Also got no joy from my father in law who shrugged with a “s’arrive” – it happens. Mind you he broke he leg for the first time skiing at 20, so my slightly sore shoulder didn’t stack up.
So I’m taking it easy for a few days at least. I’d tell you about Rick’s injury, but I’d only make it sound a triffle. Maybe he’ll enlighten us with a comment?

I thought I’d be a bit flash and do a ‘pingback’ rather than a comment.
