Just got down from skiing in Monetier, i’s snowing quite heavily but that didn’t stop us.
Didn’t bother head up higher than Bachas, there is much better shaddow and definition under the tree line so we scooted around under there for a while. Had a wee snifter in the Peyra Juana, which is my favourite stop over the whole of Serre Che, off the Rocahmout piste – the only piste from which it’s accessible.
Spent the morning skiing with Mike, a Brit with an apartment in the village, he tells me he’s been mighty impressed with the catering of Carol of Chef at Home, I keep meaning to try it, but he looked well fed and well content.
The best run of the day had to be Tabuc, a black to the right of the Cibiout lift, a sort of not very groomed run that was incredibly scenic that leads down to Monetier. There are a couple of very steep, tight walls that deservedly earn the black signage for the run, but it also winds slowly along the river. There was just the right amount of snow to cover everything, so no ice. This was also one of the only times the piste was open, certainly the only time I’ve done it when it’s been open.
It’s funny that when it would seem like there is too much falling snow to ski, because of the concentration on the piste in hand one doesn’t seem to notice it, as one would on a more open piste.
I really am a bit of a poof when it comes to heading out in the snow, but I’m glad I did and will try and do it again tomorrow when the sun is forecast to be here.
