Gap

by Rick Lomas on June 15, 2010

image170072159.jpgSo here I am at Gap. Gap is the main town of the Hautes Alpes departement or the 05 as we call it. You can always tell this by the postcode, for example Gap is 05000, whereas Briançon is a bit less important is 05100. You also see that up until last year, local number plates on cars always ended in 05 too, so you could decide what level of road rage was needed.

Hint: the post code for Paris is 75000, so if you see a number plate ending in 75, they are on holiday, but probably haven’t slowed down to the Serre Chevalier pace of things yet.

btw the photo shows a very miserable side to Gap, the town is actually rather pretty, sort of.
