Early board catches less therms

by Fergus Rainbow on April 6, 2010

First off sorry about that not only bad pun, but grammatically incorrect one to boot, it should of course be fewer, but that would have made it read worser.

Two things I’m surprised to find myself thinking brought on by the sudden arrival of great sun: I reckon these are perfect conditions for snowboarding and I think there’s much to be said for getting up early enough to get the first lift.

Maybe it’s just being a bit flexible with what you’ve got but I think a change is as good as a rest in this instance.

First off boarding in slushy snow is pretty cool, in fact it’s just as easy, you have to be a bit careful on the turn but it’s easier than skiing.

The upper slopes are in pretty good nick, they get wetter later, which leads me on the the second thrust of my jist. Getting up early will mean you can get the best hours of the day before it gets too spring-snow to want to go on. Then finish by 4pm and get a nap in.

There is still cover all the way to the bottom, but the change in grip from firm and fast in the shadow to much slower in the sticky sunny parts means you can’t take anything for granted. Still you can always get the lift down.

I was told today I have to ski it all in order to progress, so will be out again tomorrow, might even try to get on the lift by 9am, still we’re watching the ski season tick down here in gorgeous Serre Chevalier, so I guess it makes sense, but honestly I’d rather try folk dancing than go on a snow-board.
