Here’s what passes for kids’ literature in France today “Little Devil”, call me old fashioned but I can see children becoming accustomed to the idea of sharing one’s bed with a/ the Devil as worrying.
My kids belong to some book club which sends a couple of books through the post each month, but this most recent one that has just landed Petit diable by Penelope Jossen has, as Rick might say “got my piss boiling”. I’d even go so far as to say Penelope Jossen is a devil worshiping harlot who is corrupting kids, no wonder evil proliferates in today’s Godless environment.
The publishers at www.ecoledesmax.com have recomended this book as being suitable for those aged from two to four. Just for the record encouraging tots to think it’s a) normal to converse with the devil b) share you bed with the devil is wrong, to put it mildly.
“Ooh it’s just a kids book”, bollocks to that. The devil incarnate is evil incarnate and as such should be rejected on principle, but no we’ve got Amelie who befriends and brings to her bed a cutsey wee devil. Er, WTF?
The school books aern’t much better we’ve seen Roco the orgre having a dinner party with the dead and all manner of other death based characters, call me old fashioned, or even over protective, but am I the only one who is beginning to miss the Famous Five?
Anyway that’s what’s going on in the village today. I promise this won’t turn into a blog whinning about how difficult, actually read impossible, it is to get a curry in Serre Chevalier, but we’ve got a greater adversary to worry about.
