Jaldi Jaldi
Mumtaz – Jaldi Jaldi
Bradford/ Leeds, Yorkshire

Technically not in Serre Chevalier, but take-out is available and it is on the back of this that this most mouth-watering of curry houses of the North is included.
There is not much curry, England’s national dish, possible in Serre Chevalier, so it’s worth bringing one over with you – if you don’t eat it all, someone will take it off your hands at the used food market on Thursday in Monetier outside the church and Sunday in Villeneuve.
Jaldi Jaldi is the pre-prepared take-out arm of Mumtaz and all manner of delights are available for collection in properly sealed tubs that lock in freshness all the way to the southern French Alps. Priced in English pounds: mixed starter is 3.35, very good selection to get the ball rolling. The karahi chicken at 5.25 was delicious and I couldn’t share my lamb rogan josh, 5.25, with anyone it was that good.
It seems rather mad to bring food with you, but why not? The portions are big enough for two, that and some rice Bob’s your mother’s brother, first night in resort no need for all that speeding about trying to decide what you’ll want – you know it’ll be pizza anyway. They also do baby food, so something for the entire family.
The restaurant says it’s Kashmiri cooking, but I’m not certain I really go with that, it was excellent and definitely northern Indian, perhaps I missed those dishes, but that’s what they say.
If you say it’s for a food parcel for some expats up a mountain they’ll even chuck in some extra bhajis.
