For those in the UK, hit by the current exchange rate, it this has made it very difficult for some of you to get away skiing this year. Here are some top tips for further ‘elegant economy’:

- come overnight by train from Paris, arrive 7.30 Saturday morning and get in 8 days of skiing before the train back at 8.30 pm the following Saturday, from £55 return per person including sleeper.

- no car hire necessary when you arrive in Briancon by train, and get to and from the slopes on free local ski bus. Saves struggling with snow chains etc too.

- self-catering apartments means you can eat in and save on meals out

- 20% discount on ski hire for Snowgums clients at local retailer Outlands
