Here’s some career advice for any doctors out there who are looking for a sweet deal, loads of cash paying patients and like the mountains.

Move to Le Monetier Les Bains, you’ll coin it in.

The local doctors the Assors, who have a practice, a peak practice you might say, right at the foot of the ski lift in Pre Chabert, great for blood-wagon access, are full all the time, from dawn till dusk, the sick, or work-shy bludgers, are pouring out of their surgery and queuing for hours.

Of course this lot might be just sat there getting out of the cold, it is heated, but there is money where there’s misery.

I’d apply myself, but I’m more of a herbal, homeopathic and red wine kind of self medicating guy, but if you’re a real doctor I reckon there are worse places to be. Of course you’d want to go on holiday for November, but the rest of the year is peachy – and think of the people you’d meet? Snapped English, taciturn locals after a farm accident, vocal damaged Italians and quite a few Russians are on the slopes here now, so I’m sure you’ll meet some of them at some point.

But seriously, these are the people you want to be dealt with if you fall ill here. She is the more general, but he is a bone expert, which is what you want. I stacked a finger a few years ago and as he was putting a little plastic cast on it he explained the different types of wounds for snowborders and skiers, as well as saying how the types of injury change as the season, and therefore the snow, changes. It was very informative, just a shame I couldn’t take notes, otherwise I’d be practicing what I preach and open my own shop.

Thanks for the info on Doctors. We are coming to Serre next Sunday for a week. (Staying at Chantmerle. But will be at Monetier to try the re-vamped baths.Hopefully NOT the doctors!
The forecast suggests it will get warmer next week. With temps above freezing and rain in the valley.
We had hoped to go off piste at La Grave for a day.Maybe that will be off now.
Good luck with the child care.
We spend a lot of time looking after the grandkids, so I know how tiring it is!!

I wouldn’t worry about conditions in La Grave – it’s way higher, way more extreme and way scary – there’ll be enough snow there to do anything you want.
