Pyric Victory

by Fergus Rainbow on March 27, 2010

A few, I’d say five or six, weeks ago I stacked my shoulder doing the softy start of Tabuc, I think my favourite run in Serre Chevalier for some reason, lovely touring black, but obviously with a deceptively easy start to the piste.

Tapotement

Tapotement

Apparantly it’s very normal to hurt yourself where you shouldn’t. I think I fell over forwards as that’s where the goggles left their mark, scrapping off some of my nose and it felt as if someone had smashed my arm with a bat.
I had said at the time it felt as if my shoulder sucked itself back into the socket, but this was generally poo-pooed, especially by the real men on the village who break more before breakfast than you’ve had hot dinners.

Well I went to see a friend of mine who came very highly recommended, a real healing massage bloke – a giant of a Canadian called Ky, who gave me a real working over and a thing called “tapotement”, a sort of ascending and descending pummelling (he operates on a pain scale on 1-9, with seven being where you want to draw the line).
Anyway he was fairly convinced I did dislocate my shoulder and in fact tore my labrum, some form of ligament that will take at least six months to heal.

So proved right on my level of damage -yea.
There is a big chance Ky will be doing courses in Monetier this summer, either teaching or to indviduals as a treatment. Accomadation in Moneteir will be included in the course, probably a week – with a diploma at the end of it – and airport transfers through our lovely friend Jackson at Alpine Transfer Services. if anyone’s interested please let me know as we can get planning dates and I can send out more details.
He also specialises in a range of post-ski injury massages to get us ready to do it all again next season.
