This is Briançon, the highest town in Europe. If you are looking for a lively town with pubs, restaurants, superb shops, railway station and everything a proper town should have this is the place. Skiing can become limited if the temperature becomes too warm as the majority of the slopes are facing south.

This includes St Chaffrey and Chantemerle. St Chaffrey is a traditional village which has the post office and the Mairie, but has not become a major ski village as it is a short bus ride or a 20 minute walk to Chantemerle. Chantemerle is at the heart of the Serre Chevalier lift system, with a high speed chair lift, cable car and gondolas giving instant access to the piste.

La Salle les Alpes, Villeneuve La Salle and Le Bez make up Serre Chevalier 1400 which is quite spread out, but has good access to the piste. At the moment this is probably the liveliest part of Serre Chevalier as it is home to the raucous La Grotte pub which has more live music than anywhere else in The Alps (probably).
