Normal service has resumed (allegedly)
You think Rick’s had it tough, my internet went phut, or at least my Orange provided “live-box” did, so I’ve been all like lonely, the fact no one wrote to me whilst I was down, apart from some ad notifications from some Land Rover forum I joined ages ago hasn’t made me feel more popular either.
If you have to deal with an internet in France steel yourself, we have a package of mobile, land-line and interweb all bundled into one expensive and temperamental lump, the mobile was fine, but the other two died at the same time.
So calling the help desk with the mobile you first listen to a recording telling you all the solutions to your internet problems can be found online and you should visit such and such site.
The second bit of the message tells you calls are free from a land-line.
It’s nice to know, but when your land-line and internet are down – which is why you are calling the help desk – about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
Get this, you have to take the “live-box” down to Briancon to change it, they don’t drive you a new one up in a van or send someone in a uniform to fix it for you.
As my wife pointed out Serre Chevalier is not Hong Kong, but then again it’s a lot less polluted and not 82% humidity.
Swings and roundabouts.

Took 2 weeks to get mine sorted !Needed a reference code for a power cable(orange)after numerous phonecalls and visits to briancon……….
Had a serious discussion with my wife last night about what we’re doing in France. It does seem the powers that be don’t want you to do business – if you’re reliant on the state or a state industry you’re fine, but if not this country is a socialist, tax-everything (twice) nightmare.
Anyway I feel your pain, still waiting for my phone to get put back on, mind you whom I gonna call?
