Warm up with Insight Ski School, Serre Chevalier
What do you do if you haven’t skied for a year or two, (especially if during this time you’ve been pregnant and had a baby so your “exercise” time has been and still is limited)?
I was lucky enough to spend the morning with Darren Turner from the Insight Ski School, Serre Chevalier, dusting off the cobwebs and building my confidence. We went skiing around the Grand Alpe/ Chantemerle area and I noted some improved , widened pistes. The conditions were super perfect, blue sky, sunshine, beautifully groomed almost empty pistes, cold, but I enjoyed just keeping on moving! I felt very rusty on the first slope! We worked on my stance, weight transfer during turns and making the turns easier and more relaxed while looking ahead to “read” the piste. I had no idea how my muscles would respond to the sudden burst of exercise, but by following the personalized advice I found myself skiing comfortably.
After the lesson I practised further on my own and then felt happy to ski down the easier parts of the Luc Alphand black run back to Chantemerle, switching to the “Winterwonderland” Briance green run for a taste of Narnia at times.
I now feel confident enough again to meet up with friends for ski days, without feeling so out of practice.
The session confirmed to me that if you want to make rapid progress a one to one lesson is invaluable.
