Serre Chevalier Deneigement
Well well well, after all this talk about the lack of snow, look what happened. The Serre Chevalier deneigement blokes have been going up and down the road since 5am, but even now there is still well packed snow on the Route Nationale.
I’m not sure exactly how much snow came down, but I’m guessing it was about 70cm here in Briancon and Fergus told me it had done about 1m in Monetier – although I am waiting on photographic evidence.
The snowy hat on my car looked ridiculous, but that is partly because of the Thule Roof Box, but even so it was an impressive lump of snow.
I spent 4 hours clearing my driveway and then went for a spin – it was chaos on the roads with people stuck everywhere and sliding all over the place. I guess by Serre Chevalier standards this is actually a snowy day.

Just got back off the pistes at Monetier, great snow for skiing, amzing for boarding, thick like clotted cream it were.
Only the smaller, slower lift from Pre Chabert was open this morning due to ice-jammed Bachas, but that was all fixed by about 1pm.
The lifts above Bachas ie Echauder, Cibiout and L’Yret were closed, but the runs through the trees were tip top.
For visibility make sure you have light googles.
Snow was just under a metre, great, great ski.
Sigh, it all looks too good, evenfrom here in Australia with 30 degree days and the surf to console me.
To be honest Matthew, I’d gladly swap right now – I’ve had both my cars stuck in the driveway on thick solid ice, so a blast of hot ozzy sunshine would be wicked:)
