Serre Chevalier Accommodation

One is loneliest in November

0

This is my first full year living in Serre Chevalier, before I used to jet in for a month, get my skis at Aoraki at Pre Chabert, get a couple of lessons with Darren at Insight, eat at Hotel L’Europe, wear a dress (badly) at Ms Chantemerle, have pint at L’Alpen and get driven back to the airport by Jackson, still in makeup, with Alpine Travel Service, usually under a glorious sky.

That was it, nice work if you can get it, but was it real? That fantasy life has been fully destroyed by November. My local wife always said it was the worst, she was not exaggerating in her maudlin Gallic way. It really does suck balls.

You find yourself in conversation and it’s all black, then suddenly – oh it’s November is mentioned and this sort of shakes you out of your misery or at least puts ii in context, but we’re putting our time in right now.

I don’t want to be a sook, but, oh hang on it’s November.

Mind you if  Serre Che is blessed with 300 days of sunshine, although it’s supposed to be a shade under that – don’t know what’s changed , can’t be global (bullshit) warming if there’s less sun right? So this means a total of 30 of those crappy days could be in November, but more likely it’s 20 or so, say another 10 in October and stormy May soaks up another 8, there’s only 22 days of possible rubbish weather to distribute through the rest of the year. Even if they all come in the Dec –April season, that’s 4.4 a month, or 1.02 a week. See the mathematics we have to go through to justify living here this month? Just in case you wondered, it’s miserable today, mind you it is November.
