Serre Chevalier Accommodation

Serre Chevalier to Turin and Grenoble

alpine-transfer-companyJackson’s whole package:   It’s always a balance between lovely quiet pistes no one knows about and the reason they’re so quiet. Serre Che is a well kept secret that should be more widely appreciated, but what makes skiing here special? Well, apart from the 250km of north facing slopes combined with almost 300 days of glorious sunshine a year with charming working villages laid out – sorry fell into a meme there – it is the space you seem to get to yourself and the ease and speed with which one can get on a lift. When there are queues it’s usually New Year’s Day or French school holidays and even then it’s never more than five minutes and even then it’s usually only at one or two small lifts, such as Frejus.

But I digress, the reason the station is quiet is it has always been a bit of a nightmare getting here on public transport from either Grenoble or Turin airports. Funnily enough it’s much easier to leave on public transport, I think that says something. Taxis were ridiculously expensive as they had a strangle hold on the route and car hire from Grenoble means dealing with the Lautaret Pass, which is intimidating to say the least, all switch-backs and oblivion if you get it wrong – not the least stressful start to a holiday (Turin is a much easier drive). The Alpine Transfer Company straddles the divide rather well, many may know Jackson’s service which has been growing in recent years, and it’s getting better and better. This season the company is running scheduled Saturday airport bus services at a cost of Eur 45 a head, and run thusly:

  • Serre Chevalier to Grenoble GNB  16:00
  • Grenoble GNB to Serre Chevalier 22:30
  • Serre Chevalier to Turin Caselle TRN   06:00
  • Turin Caselle TRN to Serre Chevalier 11:15
  • Serre Chevalier to Turin Caselle TRN   17:00
  • Turin Caselle TRN to Serre Chevalier 20:40

You can chillax (a witty combination of chill and relax, used mostly by snowborders) all the way to and from the valley. In fact this service is so good it will make your whole week, I thank you.
