Serre Chevalier Weather
It’s a funny old game snow predictions, the weather changes so quickly and violently, at times it’s hard to divine what the heavens hold in store for us. The valley had a long, late, hot autumn, with temperatures over 20º most days and the forests are only just beginning to slip out of their green coats, but the turn is definitely now underway.
Old hands said this was unseasonably warm, but not unseen. That’s always the conditional thrown in, this covers all eventualities – or more importantly covers all guesses.
There is new snow at the tops of the peaks, there have been a couple of days where it’s obviously been snowing up there, but the lynchpin for a good season seems to be rain. If there is a fairly good soaking before the snows come in earnest – usually the very end of November, this freezes in the ground and gives an adhesive base for the snow to sit on.
It’s indifferent news on that front, there has been some rain, but no more than expected, I guess we’ll just have to keep watching the skis.
BTW The photo is of Le Prorel, Serre Chevalier taken today at 16:12
