Serre Che Powder Days

1

Clot Gauthier There was  a lot of blue sky, powder days in Serre Chevalier last year.  Being a competent boarder and a pretty poor skiier, it is always a very easy decision which mode of transport to take out.  Sometimes there was too much snow and a lot of the resort was closed.  You have to know where to go in those situations so you dont get buried in deep pow, its always very tough getting out.
One of those days last year, my boyfriend and i actually got out of bed at a reasonable hour.  From our appartment we can see a fair part of the resort, so can also see which lifts were open.  We headed over to the Clot Gauthier lift to see what lines we could get under the lift, and also to see if the La Balme lift was open.  If it is it opens up a lovely area of off piste.  From the lift we could to see that it tracked out underneath and La Balme lift was shut.  Boo.  From the top of the Clot we decided to just descend but coming round the corner we saw that the L’Echauda  button lift had just opened.  In six years here we hadnt even been on it;  A. Because it was hardly ever open, B. Because the runs off it are not brilliant for a boarder, unless you can go off piste.  We joined the queue and went over to the right and got some lovely powder turns in.  Back in the queue it was obvious that the whole world had realised it was open.  From the top we went right, along the Aile Froide.  From there we hiked up the hill to the top of the Clot Gauthier button, another one that is rarely open.
We paused at the top to take in the beautiful view, strapped in then had a lovely run alongside the button to the Goulet run.
Serre Che Powder Days We fnished the day going down bumpy pistes.  Perfect.

Thanks Gail for your first post, hope to see many more:)
I was starting to feel a bit sad now that summer is over, but you forget about those blue skies we get in the winter – which I think was one of the main reasons I moved here.
