Spring in Serre Chevalier

For the last week it has been consistently above zero at village level and getting up to 18/19C in the afternoons. This means the Luc Alphand run is now knackered (and shut) and has flowers starting to grow!
However if you are prepared to get up early, then the higher pistes are surprisingly good. You can still ski back down to the lift station at Monêtier, albeit just on a thin strip of snow that the piste bashers construct every night.
Having said that, we went for a picnic at Le Casset yesterday and it was just a really pleasant climate for sitting in a field, so I’d suggest ski in the morning and take it easy in the afternoon.
Of course snowboarders are loving the slushy stuff and they are becoming more sunburnt than ever.
