Equipment Hire and Grenoble Airport Transfers
Here are a few questions from Laura, who will be visiting Serre Chevalier, from Sat 10 March up to including Monday 19th of March, departing Tuesday 20th, 10 nights in total.
Q. We are not bringing our own equipment, so are you able to advise if we
are better to pre-book this before our trip - will be make any
savings? The same for our lift passes, are we better to pre-book?
A. I don’t think there is any advantage at all pre booking anything (with the exception of a full season pass) - if you go and see Loïc (he looks like a minature James Bond) in Sport 2000 in Chantemerle and mention “Rick from The Harper Brothers”, you will probably get a discount anyway! Passes are, well just expensive, although if for example you are beginners and don’t plan to go too far, you can buy a Chantemerle-Villeneuve pass rather than the full Grande Serr Che, which is the entire area.
Q. We are flying to Grenoble, and have looked into how we transfer…the
train takes us to Briancon, but seems to take forever….what would you suggest?
A. The train takes forever because it doesn’t go direct it goes to the south of The Alps through gap, which is miles out of the way. There is a bus, see www.vfd.fr but there is only one a day and it’s quite expensive. Grenoble is not the best place to fly to (Turin is slightly better). Personally, if it was me I would probably rent a car at Grenoble airport, it will cost about £170 for 10 days. The only other alternative is to use a ski transfer company such as ATS.
You may like to look at my page on Turin Airport Ski Transfers, I know it’s the wrong airport, but there are a few companies there that may be able to help.
Sorry I can’t help you more there.
Laura concludes..
We cannot wait, and are looking forward to exploring this area
further, we have spent a number of years skiing in the French Alps,
and have spent a day in Serre Chevalier, but one day is never enough!
